Socrates Oil is a family business, created by love for our place, olive and quality olive oil.

From Delphi, the center of land in antiquity, and from 2014 we produce the extra virgin olive oil “SOCRATES OIL” and the olives of Amfissa “SOCRATES OLIVE“. With the main aim and purpose of producing exceptional and premium virgin olive oil and based on the traditional ways of cultivating and caring for olive trees, we produce an olive oil of excellent quality, with special aromas and characteristic aftertaste.

The olive is considered the gift of gods to man.

It is a blessed tree that thrives in the Mediterranean region for over 7,000 years. The olive is a symbol of peace, knowledge, wisdom of health and beauty. It is no coincidence that with an olive branch they crowned the Olympic champions. The traditional olive grove of Amfissa is the largest continuous olive grove in the Balkans with an area of 67,000 acres and about 850,000 olive trees. Most of the trees are of the Amfissa variety, the age of which is lost in the depths of the centuries.

The distance between the olive trees, the shaping of the soil and the sea breeze that permeates the olive trees throughout the year, gives our olive oil a global uniqueness. From these olive trees and collecting the olives with their hands and transferring them at the same time to the olive oil mill and through the process of cold extraction (25 ° C) and only by mechanical methods, we produce the excellent and extra virgin olive oil “Socrates oil”.

The cultivation of the olive tree

One of the first ways of cultivating the olive is that of the traditional olive grove. The density of trees per acre is 4-12 trees, with little or no irrigation being applied. Traditional olive groves also, due to their cultivation, contribute to the preservation of the ecosystem and ecological balance.

The olive tree thrives on all soil types, but it is preferred to be planted in those with a pH of 6.5 to 7.5. Olive tree prefers the mild and sweet climate, without many and sudden changes in weather conditions. The very high temperatures delay vegetation, affect the formation of flowers, and also the growth and maturation of the fruit.

The traditional olive grove of Amfissa is the largest continuous olive grove in the Balkans and the oldest in all of Europe. It mostly includes perennial olive trees of the Amfissa variety, the height of which reaches 10-12 m.

Inside this traditional olive grove, we cultivate, with special love and care, our perennial trees, from which we produce the extra virgin olive oil “Socrates oil” as well as the olives of Amfissa “Socrates olives”.

Without the use of chemical fertilizers and pesticides, our organic (to be made) harvested olive trees, having found in the microclimate of the region all those elements they need, have given us the highest quality in the products produced.

The harvest of the olives is done by hand, late autumn, when the fruit of the olive is green and begins to get a bright oval color. In this condition the olives give us the best olive oil with the maximum number of polyphenols. The kneading of the fruit is made on the same day in a modern two-phase oil mill and at a temperature of up to 25 ℃.

Olive oil is stored in stainless tanks and in appropriate climatic conditions until the day of bottling.

Olive oil & Health

The Hippocratic Code lists over 60 medical uses of olive oil. Recent studies, which have focused on the benefits of olive oil to the human body, have found that consumption also provides substantial help in the battle against cardiovascular disease.

A recent clinical study, conducted by Dan Flynn, the Olive Center Manager at the University of California, and implemented by both Greek and foreign scientists, found the beneficial effect of olive oil consumption on the human body as a whole. In the context of this study, olive oils were tested and were selected after analysis by the pharmaceutical department of the University of Athens.

The study was conducted in healthy people, approximately 25 years old. Through research, and for the first time, it was found that the Greek extra virgin olive oil, which is rich in oleokanthal, can protect the human cardiovascular system. Phenols and oleuropein contained in the olive oil, are responsible for the bitter taste and the burning that causes us in the throat the swallowing of olive oil. The amount of oleuropein varies according to the variety of olive, the climate and the method of extracting the olive oil in the mill. www.socratesoil.gr
